Gabriel Yesuf

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environmental Modelling in the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Reading

Biography

Gabriel is a landscape ecologist, and his research interest sits at the intersection of environmental science, natural and agricultural systems. Gabriel’s research utilises spatial analysis (GIS), process-based models and remote sensing data to determine the drivers of climate and land use change and the corresponding impact on biodiversity, and ecosystem services. He has research experience in natural and managed systems in sub-Saharan Africa (including Nigeria, Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania). Currently, he is a research associate at the University of Reading on the Food System Equality (FoodSEqual) project and collaborating on the development of a spatial modelling framework to assess the environmental impact of innovative changes in UK food production system in response to demand for healthy diets. Previously, he was a senior research associate at Lancaster Environment Centre, where he worked on Greening Livestock, an IFAD-funded project that incorporated incentive-based interventions in smallholder dairy production systems. He also has research experience working on an African restoration project which was funded by UKRI-BBRSC that leveraged plant diversity as a tool to restore degraded grasslands. He has worked for African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST) as a scientific officer where he led several regional capacity building trainings and collaborated on environmental impact assessment projects.
