22 – 27 July 2024, Dakar, Senegal
The Walker Institute provided in-person workshop and ‘Training of Trainers’ (TOT) activity to AGRHYMET in Dakar Senegal as part of its contract to establish a Common Core Curriculum (C3) and Development Team (C3DT). The C3 provides a ‘Foundational Knowledge of Climate Change and Sustainable Development’ for all students joining AGRHYMET whether for Diploma or Master’s courses. The C3 content is built around the impact of weather, climate and other hazards on food security, nutritional wellbeing and livelihood resilience, and is designed to strengthen the impact of the World Bank’s Food Security and Resilience Programme (FSRP).
AGRHYMET and the Walker Institute are both regional hubs of The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Lighthouse Activity, “My” Climate Risk (MCR) and a ‘bottom up’ MCR approach informs the design of the C3. The Training of the Trainers (ToT) was provided to the AGRHYMET lecturers/trainers who will be teaching the course. Additionally, as part of the programme of work in Dakar an Impact Assessment Methodology (IAM) Workshop was delivered.
The IAM Workshop was held on 25 and 26 July 2024 as part of the Dakar ToT Workshop, led by Prof. Rosalind Cornforth, Walker Institute Director, and co-facilitated by Dr. Celia Petty, Walker Institute Deputy Director and Prof. Amadou Gaye. The workshop provided an overview of the IAM approach and introduced to participants the IAM Metrics to be used for gathering information that will provide key indicators and identify priorities for actions to ensure excellence in the future development of AGRHYMET.
