Biography

Dr Heidi Llanwarne, FIA, C.Act. Interdisciplinary Research Fellow (Climate Risk) is an actuary and early career science researcher focusing on climate risk and the science-policy interface. She has over 15 years’ post qualification experience as an actuary. Heidi builds on a career that specialised in insurance regulation and building bespoke financial models, including at the Government Actuary’s Department. She assisted in developing countries setting up insurance regulators and legislation (e.g. SAMA in Saudi Arabia and the IRDA in India); provided advice on managing climate related risk by assessing various options for manging flood risk which led to the setting up of Flood Re and was responsible for reviewing the financial model of the African Risk Capacity Insurance Company (to provide weather-index based insurance to governments in Africa). Throughout her career she has worked with a wide variety of clients from many different backgrounds including climate scientists, hospital consultants, veterinary specialists, software engineers, solicitors, artists and cross organisation departments.
